LWDA was asked by David Barlett – entrepreneur and co-founder of My Digital College – to create the new brand identity design and pitch deck for Purlos. A new chatbot platform that helps support colleges and students throughout the admissions process.

EDUCATION APP LOGO DESIGN Brief

Purlos is an intelligent personalised assistant for students, helping them easily find information relating to their studies.

The system uses AI to reduce the workload of academic staff. Enabling students to ask 1000’s of questions around specific areas, such as ‘campus life’, ‘welfare & disability’, ‘Library services’ and ‘timetabling’.

The system is initially delivered via a chatbot on Microsoft Teams, Facebook Workplace and Slack. It will also be available on a mobile app and web app.

Purlos required a clean, minimal treatment of the logo. One that referenced the educational sector and was suitable for use at small sizes due to mobile devices being the main platform for the user.

The supporting brand material needed to exude a professional standard that gave confidence to the recipient, but also a level of friendliness that made the brand and product approachable.

The Result

Using the theme of higher education – specifically, the dream of graduation – our design team focused upon the idea of a mortarboard (graduate cap) as the icon.

Through various stages of development, we altered the shape of the mortarboard to also convey that of a book with a ribbon bookmark. This gave the icon some flexibility and allowed for different interpretations, whilst keeping the educational theme intact.

Two main colour treatments were included within the design direction, further extending the flexibility of the brand.

We look forward to further assisting David Bartlett with the Purlos brand in the future and wish him the best of luck with this innovative platform.
